This article is dedicated to ways of fighting bedbugs or How to exterminate bedbugs

There are two main ways of fighting bedbugs:

  1. Certified chemicals
  2. Popular remedies

CERTIFIED CHEMICALS USED TO FIGHT BEDBUGS:

  • powder chemicals: Neopin; Riapan;
  • liquid chemicals: Isecta Dibro-fin; Lakterin; Actellic;
  • aerosols: Prima-U; Karbozol; Perfos-P;
  • Сombat SuperSpray (recommended by Эльвира);
  • Chinese anti-cockroach chalk (recommended by Югославия);
  • Karbofos, Татьяна states, is also efficient against bedbugs;
  • Raptor for wingless insects helps, but not for long (Катюша writes; she used it together with Raid);
  • advice from Елена: 1. Crop dust. 2. KRA-Killer. 3. Adamant Powder. 4. Boil bed sheets;
  • Наталья recommends using Cucaracha; she says it’s more powerful than Fufanon.
  • other Наталья suggests using Forsythe;
  • one of the users also asked about the anti-bedbug remedy Chistyi Dom, and max289 says it is a very good pesticide, one of the best in his opinion;
  • kiryxa recommends using Tetriex.

When using industrial chemicals to fight bedbugs it is most reasonable to call a specialized extermination company. Such companies – it could even be your local sanitary and epidemiological inspection service – use reliable pesticides, are experienced in exterminating bedbugs and provide a guarantee for their work. If you choose to do it yourself, use means of protection, such as gloves and a mask to protect the respiratory system from the sprayed reagent (it could be toxic to humans).

Treat every little corner of your home and do it thoroughly, so you won’t have to go through the procedure several times.

After treatment leave your home for the period advised in the application instructions provided with the chemical.

Actellic

Actellic is a pesticide used against aphid, scales, weevils, sawflies, white flies, mites and ticks and other pests. It is an insecticide used mainly in gardens, but it can also be applied domestically. To use it at home you just need to dilute the content of the ampoule in a larger amount of liquid: about 2 liters of water. After treatment with Actellic leave the place for a day or two, take all pets with you and close the aquarium tightly.

POPULAR REMEDIES USED TO FIGHT BEDBUGS:

  • boiling water;
  • turpentine;
  • kerosene;
  • frost (-19…-20oC);
  • insulating oil;
  • vinegar (recommended by Алексей);
  • wormwood;
  • For parasites located on small areas, such as sofas or children’s beds, I recommend using a household steam cleaner (suggested by our user Ю).

Sometimes it is easier to throw out infested furniture, if the nidus is relatively small, i.e. you don’t see any signs of bedbugs (black spots, old molten shells etc.) on other pieces of furniture. In such cases it could help. However, it is better to combine all means available.

Popular remedies against bedbugs are mostly useful only in case of local infestations. For instance, you can scald an old armchair with boiling water, but if you soak up a modern sofa or mattress it will be a problem getting it dry. And if you use insulating oil or turpentine, you can only treat the legs but not the whole sofa with it.

Wormwood

You can buy wormwood in a drugstore (it is sold dried and packed in small boxes) and pour it anywhere you can: in corners, behind skirting, necessarily in drawers with bed sheets and clothes.

Wormwood can only be used against bedbugs as an auxiliary remedy, along with other more powerful chemicals.
